베리칩이 과연 짐승의 표일까?

계 13:16  그가 모든 자 곧 작은 자나 큰 자나 부자나 가난한 자나

자유인이나 종들에게 그 오른손에나 이마에 표를 받게 하고 

이 구절을 NIV와 NASB는 아래와 같이 번역했다.

“a mark on their right hand or on their forehead”

KJV은 다음과 같이 번역하였다.

“a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads”

‘in’이 맞나, ‘on’이 맞나?

어느 것이 원어의 뜻과 일치하는가?

‘on’이 원어가 의미하는 바를 살린 바른 번역이다.

헬라어 성경을 확인해보자.

 

χαραγμα επι της χειρος αυτων της δεξιας η επι των μετωπων αυτων

 

헬라어 원문에서 이 전치사는 επι(epi)로서 영어로 “on/upon”에 해당한다.

그러므로 이 구절은 다음과 같이 번역해야 원문에 충실한 번역이 된다.

 

“오른손이나 이마 위에 표를 받게 하고”

따라서 이 표는 베리칩처럼 피부 속에 들어가는 물건이 아니다.

 

매매를 가능하게 하는 수단이 된다고 베리칩을 짐승의 표라고 주장하는 것은

진짜 짐승의 정체가 무엇인지 모르는 자들의 단견이다. 그들은 한 때 바코드가 짐승의 표라고 했다.

 

게다가 헬라어로 ‘표’는 χαραγμα(charagma)로서

stamp, impress 또는 sculpture; engraving, a stamp, sign을 뜻한다.

그러므로 헬라 원어성경에 따르자면 이 표는

손이나 이마 위에 가해지는 어떤 표시를 의미하며,

피부 속으로 이식되는 칩이 될 수는 전혀 없다.

베리칩이 짐승의 표라는 미래주의자들의 교설은

흥미를 자극하지만

성경 원전이 의도하는 것과는 완전히 다른 환타지 소설같은 이론이다.

 

 

NIV, NASB 뿐만 아니라 거의 모든 영어성경이

전치사를 ‘on’으로 번역한 것은

원문의 뜻을 그대로 살린 아주 성실한 번역인 것이다.

베리칩이 짐승의 표라고 선전하는 미래주의(세대주의) 종말론자들은

이 모든 영어성경들이 전치사를 ‘in’이 아니라 ‘on’이라고 번역한 것을

애써 부정하려고 한다. 가위 눈물겨울 정도다.

이 모든 영어성경의 편집자들이

헬라어 전치사 επι(epi)의 용례와 의미를 잘 몰라 오류를 범했단 말인가?

 

 

짐승의 표는 칩 같이 몸 안에(in) 집어넣는 어떤 물체가 아니다.

그렇다면 짐승의 표와 666은 무엇일까?

그것이 무엇인지 바로 알려면

 우선 짐승의 정체부터 정확히 파악해야 한다. 그게 바른 순서다.
