Emerging Church(이머징 교회) 최초의 예배자 ‘카인’
The emerging church says Christians should worship God in their own individual ways, through art, dance, whatever.
이머징 교회는 말하기를 크리스찬은 예술이나, 춤, 어떤 종류라도, 그들의 개개인적인 방법을 통해 하나님께 예배드려야 한다고 말한다.
Rick Warren says, “There is no one-size-fits-all approach to worship and friendship with God” (The Purpose Driven Life, p. 103).
릭 워렌은 “하나님과의 예배와 친교에 대한 접근 방식에 있어 모든 것에 들어맞는 한 가지 방식은 없다.” 라고 말한다. (목적이 이끄는 삶, 103P)
On pages 22-28 of his book Sacred Pathways: Discover Your Soul’s Path to God, Gary Thomas says that there are nine ways that people draw near to God: Naturalists are inspired to love God out-of-doors; sensates love God with their senses; traditionalists love God through rituals, liturgies, unchanging structures; ascetics love God in solitude and simplicity; activists love God through battling injustice; caregivers love God by meeting people’s needs; enthusiasts love God through celebrations; contemplatives love God through adoration; and intellectuals love God by studying.

This sounds like Cain, who was the first emerging worshipper. He wanted to approach God and delve into spiritual things, but he wanted to do it on his own terms rather than follow the precise instructions of God’s Word. He didn’t want to be “boxed in.”

Cain was the firstborn son of Adam and Eve and his younger brother Abel was a prophet (Luke 11:50-51). God spoke through Abel and instructed the family that He was to be approached through the sacrifice of a lamb, which pointed to the coming of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:24). Cain decided to come on his own terms, instead, and brought an offering of the vegetables that he had grown with his own hands. It was an emerging, cool, artsy type of worship! Abel offering by faith in God’s Word, whereas Cain offering in the presumption of his own thinking (Heb. 11:4). 하나님은 은사로서의 인간의 상상력이나 창의력을 원하지 않으시고 오히려 다소 그의 정확한 계획을 따르기를 원하셨다. 인간은 이러한 교리적인 엄격성을 거부하고, 그들의 실존적인 상대주의의 이론으로 그것을 대체한다. 각각의 사람은 자신의 삶을 기경하고 가꾸고 있기 때문에 필연적으로 다른 사람들과 다른 방식으로 자신의 존재를 표현하게 된다. 그래서, 인간의 상상력에 의하면 사람들의 관심사에 따라 그것을 수용하고 나타내줄 수 있는 수 많은 합법적인 방법들이 있다는 것이다.
It is when we allow the agents of sensuality to enter our worship that the order and peacefulness of worship is destroyed, not enhanced. The expressiveness of the individual becomes more important than what pleases God. God is expected to be happy because men and women are giving Him something they ‘grew with their own hands,’ but in the process, the sacrifice of Cain is repeated over and over again to the music of the modern church” (David Moss, God’s Song, pp. 46, 49).
우리가 예배 가운데 관능성(sensuality)의 요소들을 수용할 때 예배의 질서와 평화는 강화되는 것이 아니라 파괴되고 만다. 개개인의 표현이 하나님을 기쁘시게 해드리는 것보다 중요하게 되어 버린다. 많은 남종과 여종들이 하나님께 그들이 “그들 자신의 손으로 키운” 어떤 것을 드리면서 하나님이 만족하시기를 기대한다. 그러나, 이러한 과정 가운데 카인의 제사는 현대 교회의 음악속에서 계속적으로 반복되어진다.(데이빗 모스, 하나님의 노래, 46p, 49p)

이 시대에 많은 교회들이 성경이 말하고 성령님이 원하시는 하나님께 드리는 예배가 아닌, 세상의 방법과 타종교, 이방 종교의 예배 스타일을 도입하여 카인 스타일의 제사(예배)를 드리고 있다. 카인의 제사(예배)가 바로 ‘Emerging Church’(이머징교회) 예배이다. 카인은 첫번째 ‘Emerging Worshipper’(이머징교회 예배자)였다. 세속화된 종교혼합주의의 배교하는 교회의 샘플인 이머징 교회를 경계해야 할 것이다.
