사도신경

교회에서의 사용

초대교회 즉, 고대교회에서는 세례를 줄 때 사도신조로 믿음을 고백하였다. 지금도 천주교회에서는 전례에 포함시켜 각종 예식이나 미사 때마다 사도신조를 통해 신앙을 고백할 수 있고, 성공회에서는 그리스도인으로서의 신앙을 되새기는 세례 계약을 다짐할 때와 만도 즉, 저녁 기도를 할 때 사도신조로 믿음을 고백한다. 개신교에서는 예배 초반에 하는 것이 원칙이나, 현대에 들어서 찬양예배에 의한 예배 순서 변경이나, 다른 신앙 고백으로 대체하는 등(이를테면 교리적 선언)으로 예배 내에서 쓰이지 않는 경우도 있다. 그러나 루터교회에서는 예전적 예배를 드리기 때문에, 정해진 예식에 따라 매주 사도신조로 신앙을 고백한다.

사도신조의 교회론

사도신조 원문을 보면 거룩한 보편교회(라틴어: sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, 영어: Holy Universal Church)라는 말이 제 14행에 나타난다. 이는 모든 교회가 성령께서 계신 거룩한 교회요, 하느님의 나라가 오게될 때까지 모든 사람에게 열린 보편교회임을 말해준다.[1]

오해

한국교회에서는 사도신경의 거룩한 보편교회(Holy Catholic Church)를 거룩한 공회(公會)(개신교), 거룩한 공교회(公敎會) 또는 거룩한 보편교회(성공회), 거룩하고 보편된 교회(천주교) 등으로 번역한다. 그러나 일부 개신교 신학자들은 개신교에서 쓰는 한글 사도신경의 "공회"의 번역을 "보편교회"로 고쳐야 한다고 주장한다. 공회가 보편교회(Universal Church)를 옮긴 말임을 모르는 일부 평신도들이 자칫 공회를 예수를 하느님의 아들로 자칭한 자라며 단죄한 산헤드린 의회로 오해할수도 있기 때문이다.[2]

라틴어 원문 (Credo) [편집]

라틴어 원문은 다음과 같다.[3]

  1. Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem,
  2. Creatorem caeli et terrae.
  3. Et in Iesum Christum,
  4. Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum,
  5. qui conceptus est de Spiritu Sancto,
  6. natus ex Maria Virgine,

  8. crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus,
  9. descendit ad inferos, tertia die resurrexit a mortuis,

번역

천주교회와 개신교회가 사용하는 한국어로 된 사도신경에는 번역 상의 차이가 있다. 현재 대한민국에서 천주교회와 성공회에서 쓰이는 번역문은 대부분의 개신교회에서 쓰이고 있는 번역문보다 현대어에 더 가깝다. 개신교의 사도신경은 최근 한국기독교총연합회와 한국기독교교회협의회에서 현대어로 다시 번역하기도 했지만, 현재 이 번역은 어느 대형 교회에서도 적용된 바가 없으며, 오히려 예장통합의 새 번역이 주로 사용되고 있다.

문화어로 된 성경 번역도 존재하지만 여기서는 표준어로 된 대한민국에서 출판된 성경 번역의 사도신경을 주로 다룬다.

천주교회

  1. 전능하신 천주 성부
  2. 천지의 창조주를 저는 믿나이다.
  3. 그 외아들
  4. 우리 주 예수 그리스도님
  5. 성령으로 인하여
  6. 동정 마리아께 잉태되어 나시고
  7. 본시오 빌라도 통치 아래서 고난을 받으시고

  4. ↑ 상통(相通) 또는 통공은 Communion의 번역으로, 사도신경에 나오는 신학용어이다. 하느님을 믿는 성도들이 죽은후에도 그 영혼은 죽지 않고, 하느님을 예배한다고 해석한 표현이 거룩한 보편교회와 모든 성도의 상통을 믿는다는 고백이다. 그래서 성공회와 로마 가톨릭에서는 사람이 죽으면, 그 몸은 죽었지만, 영혼은 살아있다는 신앙에 따라 별세자를 위해서 기도하는 전통이 있다.
